Rig Veda 1.62 — Indra

Rig Veda 1.62.1
पर मन्महे शवसानाय शूषमाङगूषं गिर्वणसे अङगिरस्वत | सुव्र्क्तिभिः सतुवत रग्मियायार्चामार्कं नरे विश्रुताय
pra manmahe śavasānāya śūṣamāṅghūṣaṃ ghirvaṇase aṅghirasvat | suvṛktibhiḥ stuvata ṛghmiyāyārcāmārkaṃ nare viśrutāya
Rig Veda 1.62.2
पर वो महे महि नमो भरध्वमाङगूष्यं शवसानाय साम | येना नः पूर्वे पितरः पदज्ञा अर्चन्तो अङगिरसो गा अविन्दन
pra vo mahe mahi namo bharadhvamāṅghūṣyaṃ śavasānāya sāma | yenā naḥ pūrve pitaraḥ padajñā arcanto aṅghiraso ghā avindan
Unto the great bring ye great adoration, a chant with praise to him exceeding mighty, Through whom our sires, Aṅgirases, singing praises and knowing well the places, found the cattle.
Rig Veda 1.62.3
इन्द्रस्याङगिरसां चेष्टौ विदत सरमा तनयाय धासिम | बर्हस्पतिर्भिनदद्रिं विदद गाः समुस्रियाभिर्वावशन्त नरः
indrasyāṅghirasāṃ ceṣṭau vidat saramā tanayāya dhāsim | bṛhaspatirbhinadadriṃ vidad ghāḥ samusriyābhirvāvaśanta naraḥ
When Indra and the Aṅgirases desired it, Saramā found provision for her offspring. Bṛhaspati cleft the mountain, found the cattle: the heroes shouted with the kine in triumph.
Rig Veda 1.62.4
स सुष्टुभा स सतुभा सप्त विप्रैः सवरेणाद्रिं सवर्यो नवग्वैः | सरण्युभिः फलिगमिन्द्र शक्र वलं रवेणदरयो दशग्वैः
sa suṣṭubhā sa stubhā sapta vipraiḥ svareṇādriṃ svaryo navaghvaiḥ | saraṇyubhiḥ phalighamindra śakra valaṃ raveṇadarayo daśaghvaiḥ
Mid shout, loud shout, and roar, with the Navagvas, seven singers, hast thou, heavenly, rent the mountain; Thou hast, with speeders, with Daśagvas, Indra, Śakra, with thunder rent obstructive Vala.
Rig Veda 1.62.5
गर्णानो अङगिरोभिर्दस्म वि वरुषसा सूर्येण गोभिरन्धः | वि भूम्या अप्रथय इन्द्र सानु दिवो रज उपरमस्तभायः
ghṛṇāno aṅghirobhirdasma vi varuṣasā sūryeṇa ghobhirandhaḥ | vi bhūmyā aprathaya indra sānu divo raja uparamastabhāyaḥ
Praised by Aṅgirases, thou, foe-destroyer, hast, with the Dawn, Sun, rays, dispelled the darkness. Thou Indra, hast spread out the earth's high ridges, and firmly fixed the region under heaven.
Rig Veda 1.62.6
तदु परयक्षतममस्य कर्म दस्मस्य चारुतममस्ति दंसः | उपह्वरे यदुपरा अपिन्वन मध्वर्णसो नद्यश्चतस्रः
tadu prayakṣatamamasya karma dasmasya cārutamamasti daṃsaḥ | upahvare yaduparā apinvan madhvarṇaso nadyaścatasraḥ
This is the deed most worthy of all honour, the fairest marvel of the Wonder-Worker, That, nigh where heaven bends down, he made four rivers flow full with waves that carry down sweet water.
Rig Veda 1.62.7
दविता वि वव्रे सनजा सनीळे अयास्य सतवमानेभिरर्कैः | भगो न मेने परमे वयोमन्नधारयद रोदसी सुदंसाः
dvitā vi vavre sanajā sanīḷe ayāsya stavamānebhirarkaiḥ | bhagho na mene parame vyomannadhārayad rodasī sudaṃsāḥ
Unwearied, won with lauding hymns, he parted of old the ancient Pair, united ever. In highest sky like Bhaga, he the doer of marvels set both Dames and earth and heaven.
Rig Veda 1.62.8
सनाद दिवं परि भूमा विरूपे पुनर्भुवा युवती सवेभिरेवैः | कर्ष्णेभिरक्तोषा रुशद्भिर्वपुर्भिरा चरतो अन्यान्या
sanād divaṃ pari bhūmā virūpe punarbhuvā yuvatī svebhirevaiḥ | kṛṣṇebhiraktoṣā ruśadbhirvapurbhirā carato anyānyā
Still born afresh, young Dames, each in her manner, unlike in hue, the Pair in alternation Round heaven and earth from ancient time have travelled, Night with her dark limbs, Dawn with limbs of splendour.
Rig Veda 1.62.9
सनेमि सख्यं सवपस्यमानः सूनुर्दाधार शवसा सुदंसाः | आमासु चिद दधिषे पक्वमन्तः पयः कर्ष्णासु रुशद रोहिणीषु
sanemi sakhyaṃ svapasyamānaḥ sūnurdādhāra śavasā sudaṃsāḥ | āmāsu cid dadhiṣe pakvamantaḥ payaḥ kṛṣṇāsu ruśad rohiṇīṣu
Rich in good actions, skilled in operation, the Son with might maintains his perfect friendship. Thou in the raw cows, black of hue or ruddy, storest the ripe milk glossy white in colour.
Rig Veda 1.62.10
सनात सनीला अवनीरवाता वरता रक्षन्ते अम्र्ताः सहोभिः | पुरू सहस्रा जनयो न पत्नीर्दुवस्यन्ति सवसारो अह्रयाणम
sanāt sanīlā avanīravātā vratā rakṣante amṛtāḥ sahobhiḥ | purū sahasrā janayo na patnīrduvasyanti svasāro ahrayāṇam
Their paths, of old connected, rest uninjured; they with great might preserve the immortal statutes. For many thousand holy works the Sisters wait on the haughty Lord like wives and matrons.
Rig Veda 1.62.11
सनायुवो नमसा नव्यो अर्कैर्वसूयवो मतयो दस्म दद्रुः | पतिं न पत्नीरुशतीरुशन्तं सप्र्शन्ति तवा शवसावन्मनीषाः
sanāyuvo namasā navyo arkairvasūyavo matayo dasma dadruḥ | patiṃ na patnīruśatīruśantaṃ spṛśanti tvā śavasāvanmanīṣāḥ
Thoughts ancient, seeking wealth, with adoration, with newest lauds have sped to thee, O Mighty. As yearning wives cleave to their yearning husband, so cleave our hymns to thee, O Lord most potent.
Rig Veda 1.62.12
सनादेव तव रायो गभस्तौ न कषीयन्ते नोप दस्यन्ति दस्म | दयुमानसि करतुमानिन्द्र धीरः शिक्षा शचीवस्तव नः शचीभिः
sanādeva tava rāyo ghabhastau na kṣīyante nopa dasyanti dasma | dyumānasi kratumānindra dhīraḥ śikṣā śacīvastava naḥ śacībhiḥ
Strong God, the riches which thy hands have holden from days of old have perished not nor wasted. Splendid art thou, O Indra, wise, unbending: strengthen us with might, O Lord of Power.
Rig Veda 1.62.13
सनायते गोतम इन्द्र नव्यमतक्षद बरह्म हरियोजनाय | सुनीथाय नः शवसान नोधाः परातर मक्षू धियावसुर जगम्यात
sanāyate ghotama indra navyamatakṣad brahma hariyojanāya | sunīthāya naḥ śavasāna nodhāḥ prātar makṣū dhiyāvasur jaghamyāt
O mighty Indra, Gotama's son Nodhas hath fashioned this new prayer to thee Eternal, Sure leader, yoker of the Tawny Coursers. May he, enriched with prayer, come soon and early.
