Our mission
To make the Rig Veda - one of the oldest layers of human literature still in continuous use - readable, searchable and conversational, in a way that respects both modern scholarship and the living tradition that has preserved these hymns for millennia.
What we built
- A complete, verse-level edition of all ten mandalas in Sanskrit, romanised transliteration and an English reference translation.
- Hybrid pgvector + lexical search across every verse.
- AI chat grounded on retrieved verses and curated explanations.
- An entity-and-relationship knowledge graph derived from the corpus.
- Audio recitation, including a Hindi fallback where Sanskrit audio is unavailable.
Editorial standards and sourcing
Our base text is the public-domain Sanskrit Samhita together with Ralph T. H. Griffith's 1896 English translation. On top of that base we publish original editorial material: hymn introductions, verse-by-verse commentary, and long-form articles. Articles cite their sources, drawing on academic and authoritative references such as peer-reviewed Vedic scholarship, university and museum resources, UNESCO documentation of the oral tradition, and standard reference works. Where we quote or paraphrase a source, we link to it.
How we use AI
Some verse-level explanations are drafted with the assistance of large language models and reviewed by our editors before publication. Long-form blog articles are researched and written by our editorial team, with sources verified by hand. AI is a drafting aid here, not a substitute for sourcing or review.
